The Diesel Truck “Big Rig” of the Future

How will Trucks look in the future look? Lets see some real examples of innovations and prototypes. The most important aspect is the energy source. The energetic crisis and the pollution are the two axles for the engineers of the future.

Westport Innovation, a company specializing in environmental technologies, recently implemented the High Pressure Direct Injection technology for diesel trucks. This technology consists of a liquefied natural gas powered truck to reduce the gas emissions and economizes the fuel. The trucks have 400 hp Cummins ISX engines with Exhaust Gas Recirculation. That results in a quiet, efficient and clean travel.

Torque Converter Lockup

Although the torque converter clutch is not part of the engine, it can make the car feel like the engine has a problem. The torque converter clutch is also known as a lock up converter. The lockup clutch has many purposes and is part of the transmission. A regular converter in an automatic transmission is made to slip at idle so that the car doesn’t move. As the accelerator is pressed the RPM’s raise and the torque converter will start to lockup or engage. When the converter engages the car will move.

Accessory Necessities - Advice for New Riders on Typical Bike Modifications

The more you ride, the more you’re going to notice “little things” that need to be addressed with further modifications to the bike. Fortunately, there are “after market” parts for every problem you’ll experience. Here are a few of the more common post-purchase “mods” you might want to make!

Alpina’s Alternative to the BMW M5

Alpina, which has been tuning BMWs for years, has come up with a competitor to the new M5. It develops the same amount of power, reaches 60 mph in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 195 mph – Alpina does not believe in 155 mph limiters for its cars. As a result, it claims this is the world’s fastest production sedan – and not many people would argue.

Heart of the BMW Alpina B5 – based on the 5 Series, like the M5 - is BMW’s 4.4 liter V-8. BMW’s M Division does without turbos and superchargers. Not Alpina; they have adopted a centrifugal compressor, engine driven, to boost power throughout the speed range and produce the same power ouput as the BMW V-10.

The Best Thing About Biodiesel

Biodiesel is an alternative-fuel option for diesel burning motors. It has similar chemical properties to standard mineral based diesel but differs in that it has many positive traits for the people of the world and the environment. Biodiesel has many benefits that it offers the manufacturers, the growers, the sellers, and the consumers. But what is the best thing about Biodiesel?

Facts:

• Biodiesel’s raw materials are renewable.

• Biodiesel manufacturing produces virtually no waste product.

• Biodiesel makes western governments less dependent on oil producing countries.

• Biodiesel burns cleaner than standard diesel fuel.

Can the US Auto and Airline Industries Handle a Price War?

General Motors has announced it will reduce prices and continue the heavy discounting to increase sales all this after very poor quarters for both Ford, GM and the bankruptcy filing by Delphi. General Motors needs to retake their market percentage losses, which were earned by Japanese Automakers, with their more fuel-efficient cars. Some say the slight pull back in fuel prices will help GM retake some of the recently lost market share.

How to Stop Your Car Being Stolen

Did you know that one fifth of all crimes reported to the police in the UK are vehicle crimes?

One fifth. That seems a huge amount.

In fact, car crime is falling in this country and has actually been reduced by 9% in the last few years according to the latest police statistics. The fall has been attributed to motorists finally taking notice of the numerous campaigns that have been implemented to encourage them to be more wary, and most of us now take steps to protect our cars.

But not enough.

Subwoofers — A Primer

So far, you must have looked at some of the basics with regards to choosing and installing your new car stereo. Now, you need to examine some of the more complex pieces that complete the car stereo experience.

Basically, people add subwoofers, amplifiers and crossovers when they are trying to tailor the output sound to suit their personal tastes.

A subwoofer is a kind of loudspeaker that reproduces the lowest bass notes in the music. Typically, its a one-trick pony delivering bass with authority and nothing else. Doing that needs lots of power and a specially designed speaker with some key empirical measurements that should be maximized.

Wheel Bearings

The most common types of bearings are wheel bearings. Motorcycle wheels have them, so do skateboards. The bearings help give you a smooth ride.

Proper maintenance of the ball bearings is the key to ensuring they don’t give you any problems. Bad bearings usually are the causes of the clunking noises you hear as you turn the wheel, or the gritty feel on the wheel. If you’re wondering what these wheel bearings look like, you might have actually seen them in your broken bicycle or if you have tried to repair your wheels. Most types conceal the balls in these bearings. These balls are made of special alloys of stainless steel.
